Burleson's Biggest Holiday Saturday Runs on Reservations

October 22, 2026

On Saturday, December 5, 2026, Burleson's holiday lineup runs from breakfast with Santa at Russell Farm at 7 a.m. to a drone show over Mayor Vera Calvin Plaza after 8 p.m. The parade is free, and so are the tree lighting, the drone show and the morning at the library. The only parts of the day you have to book are Santa's Breakfast, which sells tickets in limited 30-minute slots, and dinner on the Old Town plaza. This fall that means a table at the new Italian restaurant the Fort Worth Star-Telegram called possibly the biggest hit of the season, right on the plaza where the parade ends.

This post comes out on October 29, about five weeks before December 5. That's enough time to book everything.

The Day, Hour by Hour

The City of Burleson has December 5 on its calendar as one long stretch of events in three locations. In order:

  1. 7 to 11 a.m., Santa's Breakfast at Russell Farm, 405 W. County Road 714. Ticketed, with limited capacity and start times in 30-minute slots.
  2. 9 a.m. to noon, Christmas at the Library at Burleson Public Library, 248 SW Johnson Ave. Free, with ornament making, decorations, singing, a scavenger hunt, and gift and craft stations.
  3. 6 p.m., the Burleson Rotary Club's Christmas Parade of Lights. It starts at Burleson Collegiate High School and ends at Mayor Vera Calvin Plaza in Old Town, 141 W. Renfro St. Performances on the plaza stage follow.
  4. 8 p.m., the tree lighting and holiday drone show on the plaza. Free.

The City's BTX-MAS event listing says Santa and his helpers will light a 34-foot tree with more than 20,000 lights. An interactive Santa's cabin at the base of the tree is set up for photos. After that comes a drone show set to holiday music.

Most of the day is open to anyone who shows up. The two pieces that fill up come in the morning and the evening, and they decide how the rest of it goes.

What You Can Walk Into and What You Can't

Event Date and time What it takes
Santa's Breakfast, Russell Farm Dec. 5, 7–11 a.m. Ticket for a 30-minute slot; $5 ages 3–12, $7 ages 13 and up, free under 2
Christmas at the Library Dec. 5, 9 a.m.–noon Free
Parade of Lights, tree lighting, drone show Dec. 5, 6–8 p.m. and after Free
Dinner at On the Rocks Italian Bistro Nightly, 5–9 p.m. Reservations recommended; walk-ins when tables are open
Christmas Craft Fair, Senior Activity Center Dec. 12, 9 a.m.–2 p.m. Bring cash for vendors
Christmas on the Farm, Russell Farm Dec. 12, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Free

Two of these depend on how many seats there are, not on the time of day. Both are worth booking before the first week of November.

Booking the Morning at Russell Farm

Santa's Breakfast is the one event on December 5 that the City caps on purpose. You pick a 30-minute start time when you buy tickets, and capacity is limited. Kids 3 to 12 are $5, everyone 13 and older is $7, and children under 2 are free.

Your slot also shapes the rest of the morning. Christmas at the Library runs 9 a.m. to noon at 248 SW Johnson Ave. An early breakfast slot leaves plenty of time to get from County Road 714 to the library's ornament and craft stations before they close. A late slot still works, but then the library becomes a quick stop before lunch instead of a whole morning.

For families with small kids, a full day may be too much. The afternoon break between noon and the 6 p.m. parade is the only real downtime on the schedule, and the evening goes past 8 p.m.

The Dinner Table Is the Tightest Spot

This year, dinner is what really needs planning. In September, Bud Kennedy at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram wrote that "in a season of flashy restaurant openings across Fort Worth, the biggest hit might be a new Italian restaurant in Burleson." He was writing about On the Rocks Italian Bistro, at 135 W. Ellison St. in a corner of the Old Town plaza.

The Star-Telegram reported that the Benouared family, who run La Bistro Italian Grill in Hurst, opened it with Dallas chef Kent Rathbun. It also said crowds were coming while the restaurant was still in soft opening with a limited menu, and reservations were required to manage the turnout. The same story described a piano bar and placed On the Rocks alongside Buffalo Bros and Babe's Chicken Dinner House as Old Town anchors.

As of mid-October 2026, the restaurant's website lists dinner daily from 5 to 9 p.m., recommends reservations and welcomes walk-ins when tables are free. Its Resy page showed booking times across that same window, with a 4.6 rating from 297 reviews when checked in October.

Line up those hours with the parade schedule and you can see why December 5 will be busy. The kitchen opens at 5 p.m. and the parade starts at 6. The parade ends at the same plaza the restaurant sits on. The tree lighting and drone show begin at 8, and the kitchen closes at 9. That leaves two realistic dinner plans:

  • A 5 p.m. seating, then step outside as the parade heads toward the plaza. That's tight, so keep it to an entrée.
  • A seating after the drone show, as close to 9 p.m. as the restaurant will book. You see everything on the plaza first and eat after.

Anyone trying to walk in between 6 and 8 p.m. will be competing with every family that came downtown for the parade. December 5 is a Saturday, so the weekday happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. doesn't apply.

The posted dinner menu includes OTR charcuterie, handmade pastas like pasta alla ruota and the spiral lasagna, a three-meat steak sampler, and seafood such as sea bass, branzino and salmon. The Star-Telegram also mentioned La Bistro's signature cappuccino pie and the "steak on the rocks," which is steak or fish cooked on a hot lava rock. If you can only get a 5 p.m. table, that charcuterie board is a fast way to eat before the parade.

After the Drone Show

Once the drone show ends, the night isn't over for adults. Old Texas Brewing Co.'s Burleson events page lists the Seven 6 Band on Saturday, December 5, from 9 p.m. to midnight. That fits after the 8 p.m. tree lighting, and it's a good fallback if you couldn't get a late dinner table on the plaza. Event listings can change, so check the brewery's calendar that week.

The same calendar lists events on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 26, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and on Christmas Day, Friday, December 25, from 11 a.m. through midnight. If you're hosting relatives over the holidays, that gives you somewhere to take them on both holidays.

Parade-night routes, road closures and parking haven't been posted on the City's December 5 listing yet. The BTX-MAS page is the place to check as the date gets closer.

December 12 Is the Easy Saturday

If December 5 sounds like too much, the City has a slower Saturday a week later. Both events are free or cash-only, and you don't need to book either one.

  • Christmas Craft Fair, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Senior Activity Center, 216 SW Johnson Ave. Expect vendors selling handmade goods, and the City suggests bringing cash. It's on the same street as the library you visited the week before.
  • Christmas on the Farm, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. back at Russell Farm. Admission is free, with Christmas craft stations, photos with a donkey wearing antlers, and other family activities.

The two events overlap from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., so you can shop the craft fair in the morning and take the kids to the farm before it closes. If you missed the Santa's Breakfast tickets, the antlered donkey on December 12 is your chance at a farm photo, and nobody has to book a 30-minute slot.

What to Book Now

Here's the short list for December 5:

  • Santa's Breakfast tickets, through the City's event listing, choosing a slot that leaves time for the library if you want both.
  • A dinner reservation at On the Rocks, at 5 p.m. or as late as they'll book, through Resy.
  • A spot to watch the parade on its way to the plaza, planned once the City posts route and parking details.

I grew up around horses and barns, so a December morning at Russell Farm feels about as close to home as Burleson gets. If you have family flying in for BTX-MAS and they've started asking what it would take to live closer to all this, Carson Gates is glad to help them find a place close enough to make December 5 a short drive. Let's connect.
